My Xbox One Friends List is down, and they’re a little rude about it too

Ok. So I’m not one to rant and rave about a service going down temporarily. I understand that, sometimes, things don’t work. That’s life. Still, Microsoft, you don’t need to be a dick about it.

When I quickly looked to see if my friends list had sorted itself out so that I can play some Pro Clubs with my buddies, I was greeted by this message.

“Sorry, we are unable to show your friends at the moment”.

That’s no problem, Microsoft, I accept your apology and I’m sure you’re working hard to rectify the issue.

But then I scrolled over to the ‘Leaderboard’ section and was greeted by this lovely message.

“You will not always be the Top performer. Once you get some friends you will be able to see how you stack up against them”.

… “once you get some friends”. Ouch. No need to twist the knife there, Microsoft. After all, it’s your fault that I don’t have any friends. It’s kind of a mean thing to say, but I know that I do usually have friends and once the section is sorted, all will be back to normal. It does make me feel for the people that don’t have any online friends, or friends with an Xbox One, however. What if that’s the message you see every time you log in to your Xbox One and casually scroll past the ‘Leaderboard’ section. I assume that’s what it says when you don’t have anyone in your friends list. It has got to be quite disheartening. I feel for those guys and gals, the Xbox Live friendless.

There are a lot of great games on the Xbox One, but it’s only recently (since the issues with Party Chat and now the Friends List) that I’ve realised how many of those games I enjoy for their multiplayer with friends. It has also led me to realise how much I like the new, updated Friends List. I like being able to see what my buddies are up to. I like watching their game-clips when they pop up on the news feed, or seeing their most recently earned achievements. Maybe that’s because I’m a bit of a stalker. Still, it’s nice to know that other people are having fun too.

If you’re wondering when the lack of friends issue will be sorted, join the club. Hopefully it will be soon, but I have noticed of late that the ‘Party’ system has been incredibly temperamental, as has the friends list as a whole. I wonder if maybe they cocked up with one of the recent updates? Who knows.

why is this an article …

Why does y have a long tail?

Doesn’t come across as joke to me (As others have stated), nor does it come across as mean. It is just a statement that was made with no consideration for how it will be perceived.

I could be wrong but that is how I see it.

its a message they put when youre new to xbl … and have zero friends … and its not mean at all … i dont get how this is an article at all…lol

    • I’d probably have to agree with you. I don’t think it’s intentionally being mean, and I didn’t take any offence by it. I’d imagine that there could be people out there who are nervous about making friends or joining online communities who might be disheartened by it, but I’d hope that nobody takes offence over something like that.

I just found it kind of funny, really, and I figured that there will be tonnes of people slating Microsoft for having a service down (despite how temporary it might be) so I thought I’d make light of the situation by highlighting the message.

Ps4 fanboy created article to hide the fact psn and Driveclub servers have been down for days.

    Pathetic lmfao.

    • Ahhh. Maaaan. You caught me. I purchased an Xbox One, created an Xbox One gamertag with the exact same name as my writer profile (see image at the top of the screen), I then waited until the friends list went down and wrote an article to slate the Xbox One. All because I love Sony. I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids.

My only regret is that I spent £420 on a console that I don’t even like, paid £40 a year for an Xbox Live subscription that I don’t use and wasted all of that money on the Xbox One games, just to get caught at the final whistle.

Psn is down?! I better log out and stop playing then. No one told me! :/
Stop being so sensitive. Xbl has issues just like any other system does and to say other wise is straight up lying. Especially this gen.
And for sake of argument, I would be more than happy to link to the microsoft report on the patches they had to work for fh2 for people not being able to connect.
Psn is not down. Rarely has gone down this gen. And the fangirl ddos attacks is no ones fault except for the little kids that did it.

      • HalfBlackCanuck

To their defense, they never said PSN was down, just the Driveclub servers (which they have been) which has also stopped the free PSN version from being released.

What throws it off to me is the “You will not always be the top performer.” How does that little sentence in any way convey to the user that there are no friends on their list? Then when you follow that up with the “Once you get some friends…” I think it can be taken as a bit rude, but that’s just because of text based communication where the tone can be misconstrued. Obviously they’re just trying to say that the given field will be populated once they add friends. Either way I think it’s a pretty funny way of putting it.
