Some things are just bound to happen in this world. Nicholas Cage will make a shitty movie, the sun will rise and World of Warcraft will get a new expansion. The sixth expansion pack was announced back at Gamescom 2015 in early August, with a new class for the first time since Mists of Pandaria in 2012. Not surprisingly for people who know Warcraft, the long awaited Demon Hunter class will be introduced – as the second “hero class” after Death Knights – which I’m sure will see a surge in subscribers. Demon Hunters have been requested for a very long time, after playing a huge part back in Warcraft 3,
Every expansion pack so far has seen a resurgence in subscriptions go up, but I think the introduction of a new class, a class that has been wanted like Demon Hunter, will most likely see the biggest resurgence since Lich King. However, another new addition that was spoken about at Gamescom, and since, was the introduction of class order halls, following the lead of Death Knights who had that back in Wotlk. Demon Hunters are going to be available to only two races, the elven races, Night Elf for Alliance and Blood Elf for the Horde. We are very likely going to see hundreds of thousands of Demon Hunters at the start of the expansion – do not be surprised when one of your two tanks in a raid is a Demon Hunter and you have a few dps the same! I’m surprised they’ve made Demon Hunter’s leather wearers – sure, they look like a class that would wear leather outfits (without being too kinky), but I think that most raids do not struggle for leather wearers, what with druids being highly sought after, monks being able to fill any roles, rogues still being great damager doers, we could have used another mail wearer to split the classes 3 each over the 4 armour types.
I mentioned above that there will now be two hero classes. The back story for both is very very similar. Death Knights, introduced during Wrath of the Lich King, are brought back to life by the Lich King to be his servants, whereas Demon Hunters are members of the Illidari, the soldiers and guards of Illidan Stormrage, the Betrayer, former Lord of Outland.
Another piece of news for the expansion will be the removal of multistrike; which i’m not necessarily against, but to remove a armour bonus that was added only in the previous expansion is very weird. I read that they were wondering whether to release Warlords or Legion first – so obviously multistrike was one of those features added just so another feature was in place. The plot will follow on from Warlords of Draenor, we will see the return of Illidan Stormrage, who was an epic encounter way back in The Burning Crusade, after he is revived by Gul’dan, following his escape from the Hellfire Citadel. The different timelines plot that is now in play will probably help revive original players interest in the game, as we will see huge Warcraft characters such as Turalyon and his love Alleria. We also know that Legion will be on a new continent, The Broken Isles, which will feature 7 new zones as well as a citadel city, which is supposed to be Dalaran apparently…with new dungeons and raids (of course), as well as a rumour of the Tomb of Sargeras being revealed. If so, this could be huge for the series, opening up so much more – and could potentially be one of the later raids for players to explore and battle through.
