What I expect from Kingdom Hearts III

Fans of Kingdom Hearts, like myself, have been waiting for the third installment for years. Now that the finale to the trilogy is finally on its way, it made me wonder what I would really like to see in it to make it worth the wait.

Different Worlds

The recycling of previously used worlds has been a problem for the series. As magical as it was to see Hercules and Peter Pan fight alongside me, it gets old about the third time. It would be awesome to see really outlandish worlds much like when we went into Tron’s world, or when we got to visit the black and white world of the Disney of old. Even the worlds of newer Disney movies like Frozen would be a welcome change. I swear, if we visit Atlantica one more time, I’m going to cry. I know there’s a lot of gossip about whether Star Wars will be involved, which I think would be a cool idea. Just imagine a lightsaber keyblade. I just got chills. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if this will become reality as we’ve already seen gameplay footage of Sora fighting in Agrabah, and fighting the Rock Titan.

Optimal Combat

The Kingdom Hearts universe spans many consoles, and most of them sport their own unique battle system. Some are winners, and some are losers, but the latest installment- Dream Drop Distance- seemed to have the winning formula. What we’re looking for is smooth, fast-paced combat that lets us utilize the Keyblade and magic in seamless combos. This brings me to a concern I have from what we’ve seen so far: the Disney theme park rides. I understand that Square Enix likes to put in a clever new system to accentuate combat in each new installment, but the new “Disneyland rides” thing looks awkward and incredibly cheesy. Personally, I think we should be given the ability to dual-wield. You could in Kingdom Hearts II, but only when you were in a special “form”. It would be awesome if using different Keyblades together gave different bonuses.

More Magic

Though there’s nothing necessarily wrong with the current utilization of magic, I think it would be interesting if you could be more of a mage. I understand that smacking enemies around with the Keyblade is a blast, but it would give the game more depth and replayability if you could put more of an emphasis on magic, and use the Keyblade as more of a catalyst or wand. Could you imagine if you could imbue the Keyblade with spells like fire or thunder? That would be nice for players like me who would like to see a little more diversity this time around.

More Epic Final Fantasy Team Battles

There were plenty of battles involving Cloud and Company in Kingdom Hearts II. I wanted to cry I was so happy when I was fighting alongside them in the epic heartless battle. Now that we have a more powerful system, I hope to be able to fight alongside the whole group in a fight. I would also like to see some characters from the series make an appearance. Like Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, or The Warrior of Light from the first Final Fantasy. I would like to have them in my actual party as well. The Final Fantasy universe is huge and rich; Square should make good use of it.

More King Mickey!

I have to say it: Mickey rocks. I can’t get enough of Mickey, and I really want to have him in party before the series ends.

So those are just a couple of things I would like to see in Kingdom Hearts III. I have high expectations for this game, and I hope I won’t be disappointed. What do you think would make a great addition to the game? If you have any thoughts feel free to leave them in the comments section below!

There hadn’t been footage of agrabah…

Whoops! That’s my mistake. I thought that the footage of Sora confronting what looked like a swarm of Heartless took place in Agrabah. That’s what I get for not watching the trailer before talking about it! Sorry about that.
