2013 has been a great year for gaming. The eighth generation of consoles is now well under way; Sony and Microsoft have come out all guns blazing to fight for the title of most popular console this generation. We’ve seen a huge swing towards consoles that no longer favour just gaming. The Xbox especially is now seen as an “entertainment device”, and the playstation has certain functions that aren’t just for gaming, for example its social features as well as on demand streaming.
So what does the future hold for gaming? More specifically, what will we see in 2014? What do we want to see in 2014? Well, here’s IM PLAYIN’s lists.[three_fourth]
My biggest wish for 2014 is that we see the release of some fantastic games. There are tonnes of titles that are shaping up to be real game changers – Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls Online, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Telltale’s The Walking Dead – Season Two and Mirrors Edge 2, to name but a few. All of them look, (or at least seem), like they’ll be incredible games, so I can’t wait for 2014 to come round so that I can get my hands on these titles. If I’m being less realistic, I’d like to see the release of DayZ on the next-gen consoles, the release of Left 4 Dead 3 and for Bethesda to develop an Oblivion reboot for the Xbox One … I think I’m just being a little too optimistic now.[/three_fourth][one_fourth_last][/one_fourth_last] [one_fourth][/one_fourth][three_fourth_last]
As an avid PC gamer i’m getting fracked more and more each time another great title slaps an ‘exclusive to console’ sticker on its case. With that in mind my perfect 2014 would see the port/sale of NHL 14 or GTA V – that would be nice. I’m also praying that Watch_Dogs won’t get put back again, and that it’s actually as amazing as it looks in all the GP trailers out there. I’m also hoping that ESO and Stick of Truth won’t be so awesome that I have two more MMOs to contend my time with, although I’m sure they will. I’m already sour about the fact I can’t spread what time I have among WoW, Guild Wars 2 and Runescape well enough. (Yeah, I said Runescape). I hope Reaper of Souls is a decent enough revive for D3, that PvZ: Garden Warfare is all of the awesome, that Sims 4 doesn’t come with a dozen expansions within 6 months, that Stronghold Crusader 2 just hurries up so I can spank hundreds of hours on what I feared to be a dead RTS series, that Titanfall kicks the ass it says it will and that The Division & Rainbow 6: Patriots relight my inner Tom Clancy fire. Finally, to all you console heads out there; Theme Park Studio. And what.[/three_fourth_last]
For 2014, I have some high hopes. The next gens consoles have come out, and there is a bright future to look forward to in regards to both consoles. There are too many games to count that I would say I am looking forward to, which I think is fantastic. Mainly because with the build up to the next gen’s there hasn’t been an AMAZING titles (okay, bar GTA/ Saints Row) that has been really out there. However it’s not all about consoles. What I really appreciate is some stunning and beautiful graphics when it comes to games, Crysis when it came out blow me away. Thus, I am hungry to find out some more on 4K gaming. Both consoles have basically said they can do it, and I just can’t wait to see how truly mind blowing it will be. Although, if there was one title, that I am literally on the edge for, it would be Destiny. Everything I have seen has wow’d me, and I literally cannot wait for it to be out.[/three_fourth][one_fourth_last][/one_fourth_last] [one_fourth][/one_fourth][three_fourth_last]
2014 I hope will see the arrival of the NHL Gamecenter app on Xbox Ones in Europe. I love the League as a whole and have purchased the Gamecenter the past 2 years to stream online. Covering over 1000 games, every game of every team, every play-off game, 70 quid well spent in my humble opinion. I also really hope that Steam release a fantastic console that truly represents what they currently do. Destiny to be actually released and not be pushed back would be very nice, as well as the other major titles, such as Watch Dogs and Quantum Break. Please don’t bunch these together! My wallet will cry, and I won’t be a happy boy…Well I will, because I’ll be playing games, but still. The Stick of Truth has been winding me up for a while, and my level of excitement, and expectation, for this game is huge. No more delaying this title please, I don’t want to have to keep my 360 around for too much longer! (P.S, I hope 2014 brings around 1080p gaming.)[/three_fourth_last] [three_fourth]
For 2014 I am just looking forward to continuing my Sony crusade which I started with the purchase of my vita. Coming back to Playstation I want to see titles like The Order being given a release date and the near future of the next gen to become a little clearer. There are also a couple of set wishes that I would like to see come to life as well. It would be fantastic if The Last of Us came out for PS4, giving myself and many others like me the chance to play the game that everyone raves about, on the next gen. I’m also hoping for an early release date for Diablo 3 on the PS4. Having played it on the PC and the demo on the Xbox I think that it is going to be the perfect title for a nerd like me, as well as a massive black hole on my time. If I was to have a New Year’s resolution I guess it would be to play more games that I wouldn’t usually play. So I will continue to look through PSN to find different and interesting titles worth shouting about.[/three_fourth][one_fourth_last][/one_fourth_last]
